I think big corporations are good for America – with one exception. I hate ClearChannel Communications.
I hate ClearChannel. I blame them for the sorry state of FM radio. Ever notice how every major city you visit has a “KISS-FM” and a “STAR-FM” and a “KROQ-FM”? They all play the same stuff, over and over and over again. That’s because ClearChannel owns just about every radio station in every major market in America. And they play the exact same music across the country. “KISS” in New York is the same as “KISS” in LA.
You might say to yourself “But Brett! Why waste time with FM when you can get XM?” Whelp, ClearChannel owns something like 60% of XM too! If I ever go with satellite radio, I’ll either figure out a way to steal XM’s signal, or start paying for Sirius, XM’s main competitor.
For now, all I can do is listen to public radio. I don’t know what I would do without it.
